Just one street away from NTU, the Shuiyuan Market Building, which stands over half a century, became quite incompatible with the continuously updating street scenes surrounding it. The Taipei City Government enlisted this architecture under the urban renewal project “Gongguan New World” and combined with the “Beautify Taipei” project at 1998 to 1999, which commissioned us to invite internationally famous artist Yaavoc Agam to create a large public art project—Heart of Shuiyuan.
This artwork fully expressed Agam’s artistic style of vibrant colors and geometric shapes comprehension, and made the building stand before the public like newly born, which also changed the public’s impression on traditional markets and became a new landmark in Gongguan District.
