Albert Einstein was a visionary physicist who changed fundamentally the way we look at the world around us.
He revolutionized our understanding of the laws of nature and reinterpreted the very essence of light, time, energy and gravity. He became the most famous scientist of the 20th century, maybe of all times. Einstein saw the universe as a puzzle, and he devoted his life trying to solve its mysteries. The most valuable assets he used in this endeavor were his curiosity and imagination.
Einstein was also a passionate humanitarian and anti-war activist, who considered himself a citizen of the world.
In numerous articles, in correspondence with peers and in public addresses, he expressed his opinions on a variety of public, political and moral issues, such as nationality and nationalism, war and peace, human liberty and dignity, and the fate of the Jewish people. His views, bluntly expressed, controversial, often considered simpleminded and naive, nevertheless, had significant impact.
The documents and artifacts presented in this exhibition, from the Albert Einstein Archives at the Hebrew University, shed light on Einstein’s scientific achievements, his public activity, his private life, and the mythical qualities that characterize his image in popular culture.
Through a deep look into Einstein’s personal archive, we invite you to grasp the multi-dimensional character of one of the most exceptional human beings to ever walked the planet earth, and to discover the image of the universe through the eyes of one of the greatest minds of the 20th century.
