COMPETITION RULES

Theme: Children’s Chair
1. Submitted works must contain “Yilan elements”
(Note: Yilan elements include figurative colors, shapes, art and craft skills, totems, text, and symbols related to Yilan; or abstract concepts such a historical texture, local spirit, cultural values, attitude to life etc.)
2. Submitted works must also correspond to the annual theme of the competition, in this instance they should be designed specifically for children.

Work Submission Requirements, Evaluation Standards and Incentives

Creative Category (Group A)

Creative Work Requirements

 

  1. Works are intended for the use of pre-pubescent children under the age of 12, but are not limited to the use of one child.
  2. Works must be educational and entertaining.
  3. All design elements relating to dimensions, structure and materials must take into consideration the suitability of use by children.
  4. Creative materials
    • Materials should by predominantly natural (wood, bamboo, rattan, paper etc.)
    • If other  materials  are  used  they  should  be  environmentally friendly.
  5. Work numbers
    • There is no limit to the number of works an individual / team can submit.
    • The focus should be the design of a single work or multiple works that make up a single set

 

Evaluation Standards

Innovation 40% Contemporary, original, stylish and complete
Theme-based 20% Showcases representational or abstract Yilan elements
Practicality 15% Convenience of use, takes into consideration physical size and safety of users
Technical nature 15% *Participants are encouraged to embrace innovative use of traditional handicraft techniques
*Participants are encouraged to use techniques that make use of physical forces (such as friction, gravity and elasticity)
Marketability 10% Suitable for mass production commercialization with reasonable economic development costs and market acceptability

 

Incentives

Gold Medal: One individual/team will receive NT$200,000 and a certificate

Silver Medal: One individual/team will receive NT$100,000 and a certificate

Bronze Medal: One individual/team will receive NT$80,000 and a certificate

Merit Award:8 individuals/teams will receive NT$10,000 and a certificate

Outstanding Mention: 14 individuals/teams will receive a certificate

Most popular work: One individual/team will receives a certificate (the vote will be conducted on the official competition website after the first evaluation of documents submitted)

Practical Category (Group B)

Creative Work Requirements

  2. The final retail price and cost analysis of the submitted work must be included as part of the evaluation by the jury panel.
  3. All design elements relating to dimensions, structure and materials must take into consideration the suitability of use by children.
  4. Creative materials
    • Materials should by predominantly natural (wood, bamboo, rattan, paper etc.)
    • If other  materials  are  used  they  should  be  environmentally friendly.
  5. Work numbers
    • There is no limit to the number of works an individual / team can submit.
    • The focus should be the design of a single work or multiple works that make up a single set

Incentives

  1. Awards and Cash Prizes

Gold Medal: One individual/team will receive NT$50,000 and a certificate

Silver Medal: One individual/team will receive NT$30,000 and a certificate

Bronze Medal: One individual/team will receive NT$20,000 and a certificate

Merit Award: Five individuals/teams will receive a certificate

Most popular work: One individual/team will receives a certificate (the vote will be conducted on the official competition website after the first evaluation of documents submitted)

 

  1. Yilan County Government undertakes to purchase 50 units of the Gold Medal winning work and sell them on Yilan county Government related marketing websites within three years of the award.
